The Republican House tax-cut plan passed last week is one of the most morally depraved pieces of legislation in the annals of U.S. history, openly daring Americans to form a populist uprising against the country’s elite oligarchy.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders—now registered as an Independent—continues to lead the vocal opposition to Donald Trump’s domestic agenda, which includes raising health care costs for the middle class to increase profits for private insurers and giving tax breaks to the country’s wealthiest citizens at the expense of the less fortunate.
The big news over the weekend was the information revealed by the so-called Paradise Papers that connected so many Donald Trump associates to Russia business interests that it seems certain at this point that Trump and his campaign surrogates directly and unequivocally colluded with that hostile nation to sway the U.S. presidential election in 2016.
I realize many mainstream media outlets and pundits have stepped up to confront the vulgarity and racism of Donald Trump, but just because he can read a script off a teleprompter doesn’t mean he has suddenly become presidential or he isn’t a threat to democracy.
One important way, then, for us to get out of this mess is for legitimate mainstream media outlets to quit reporting sides when there are no sides, especially when it comes to our immoral, authoritarian president and racism.
There are no arguable “sides,” no debate when it comes to Nazism and white supremacy.
